چکیده
Paleoglacial reconstructions in the European Alps have mainly focused on specific climatic periods such as Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) or Younger Dryas, with few studies investigating post-LGM Alpine glacier fluctuations encompassing broader temporal periods. In this study, we present a detailed reconstruction of glacial history Dora Baltea catchment, which hosted one main Quaternary systems western Alps. By combining existing and new chronological constraints from postglacial landforms/deposits into 2D 3D ice surface reconstructions, quantitatively reproduce timing ice-configuration six LGM to early Holocene paleoglacial stages. Our deglaciation sequence along valley can be correlated Lateglacial paleoclimatic periods, line other areas. We estimated paleo equilibrium-line altitudes (ELAs) for each stage, using empirical ice-geometric methods. results indicate low ELA sensitivity decay during stages deglaciation, despite significant retreat piedmont massifs, suggesting major role catchment topography controlling estimates large systems. Finally, provide two valley-slope collapse events, both postdating withdrawal but implying different landscape response time well triggering factors.

The cryosphere contains a rich archive of the climate record, and is an important part of the global hydrological cycle. The investigation of the glacial behaviour informs our understanding of the forces that have shaped landscapes in glaciated terrains, and is key to developing understanding of past and future climate change and global climate teleconnections. Numerical modelling of glacial sy...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of the evolution of glacial valley cross sections
A numerical model was developed for simulating the formation of U-shaped glacial valleys by coupling a two-dimensional ice flow model with an erosion model for a transverse cross section. The erosion model assumes that the erosion rate varies quadratically with sliding speed. We compare the two-dimensional model with a simple shallow-ice approximation model and show the differences in the evolu...
متن کاملGlacial isostatic uplift of the European Alps
Following the last glacial maximum (LGM), the demise of continental ice sheets induced crustal rebound in tectonically stable regions of North America and Scandinavia that is still ongoing. Unlike the ice sheets, the Alpine ice cap developed in an orogen where the measured uplift is potentially attributed to tectonic shortening, lithospheric delamination and unloading due to deglaciation and er...
